Clothes, Diapers and Equipment

To help a ND student meet the costs of pregnancy and parenting, the FRC operates“The Closet”. Within The Closet, the items are free of charge include but are not limited to: maternity clothes, infant toddler/clothing, diaper/wipe bank and other miscellaneous items necessary to raise a newborn or child. The Closet is a service to help ND’s pregnant and parenting students make their budget go a little farther.

In order to help as many students and student-families as possible, the following items are offered in limited quantities:

  • Diapers and Wipes: Every month, a FRC student-family is eligible to receive up to two free packages of diapers and wipes per child (Note: the diapers distributed should normally cover a week worth of customary need). There is a card kept on file in the FRC to track diaper dispensing. There will be one card per child. Unused diapers may not be carried over. FRC student-families with two enrolled ND students are considered as one FRC student-family.  A minimum of five business days is required before picking up the second free package of diapers and wipes.  Given the quantity of wipes per package, it is preferred that a minumum of ten business days is required before next package of wipes is distributed.  Lastly, please note that the size of the diaper/pullup requested wil be distributed according to the child's age (i.e., a student-family with an infant child is not eligible to receive size 5 diapers).

  • Maternity Clothes: Pregnant ND students and spouses may select up to five outfits from the clothing exchange per month

  • Infant/Children Clothing (up to size 4T with some limited 5T). Students may select up to five outfits per month. Only the size needed should be taken. Do not take larger sizes for use later.

  • Miscellaneous (e.g., baby bathtub, blankets, larger toys): Three items per month

To participate in this program, the ND student must be currently enrolled with a netID.

Hard Good Items

In addition to The Closet, the FRC may provide ND pregnant and parenting students with high financial need the necessary supplies needed for their child, such as cribs, car seats, strollers and changing tables. Pregnant and parenting students are encouraged first to contact local resources, such as the Women’s Care Center for assistance. Once you have explored all other local resources, the FRC may be able to assist with pregnancy-related expenses beyond what has been received.

In order to attend to those student-families in most need, the PPSA prioritizes financial assistance, with particular concern for undergraduate and international students with unanticipated or unplanned pregnancies.

An appointment with the Program Director is required to determine eligibility.

FRC relies on monetary donations and gifts-in-kind to keep The Closet running.  The Pregnant and Parenting Student Assistance Fund is made possible through individual donations and through the Notre Dame Office of Life and Human Dignity. We are grateful for their generosity and for the ability to assist your family.

The FRC respectfully requests that when a student no longer needs an item or is moving from the area after graduation, that item is returned to the FRC.

Failure to comply with these policies could result in loss of FRC privileges or referral to the Office of Community Standards.
