When one thinks of comic book adaptations as we know them now, one wouldn't quickly imagine a director like Robert Altman pulling Popeye IP for a live-action musical. By golly, though, they cast Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl (natural fit) and Robin Williams as Popeye (less natural fit) and made a movie that a lot of people hated. The film unraveled Altman's career, which took years to recover. Today, though, there is more interest in and love for the film, which is a bit of a road not taken with comic book adaptations, as well as bizarre fun for people giving it fresh eyes.
