Bijayini Satpathy
Globally acclaimed for her skill as an Odissi dancer and teacher, Bijayini Satpathy is one of the most recognizable names in Indian classical dance today. With its sculptural forms, sinuous movements, and emotional intensity, Odissi is one of the world’s oldest dance traditions. Bijayini Satpathy, a former principal dancer with India’s famed Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, performs her solo show Kalpana. Ms. Satpathy has performed solo and with Nrityagram Dance Ensemble all over the world. She has received national and international recognition including the 2003 Mahari Award, the Sanskriti award in 2007, and the 2006 Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar award for outstanding achievement in Odissi dance. In 2011, she received the prestigious Nritya Choodamani from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. …
